Step1: Prepare your supplies
You will need:
- Chocolate bars of your preference (here I used dark and white, but flavored bars will make it more interesting)
- Disposable spoons (I prefer the wooden ones, as remember that you deep them in hot cocoa, but plastic ones work fine too. I got mine on eBay and you can also customize them as you prefer. If you plan to use real ones as a gift there are lovely ideas online to choose from)
- Sprinkles of your preference to top them with (e.g mini marshmallows, colored sugar, ground coconut etc)
- Peanut butter
- A pot and a bowl to melt your chocolate in Bain-marie (alternatively you can use a microwave)
- Sheets of wax paper
Step 2: Melt your chocolate bars in Bain-marie
Add your chocolate in pieces into the bowl and then place in the pot filled with water. Put it on low fire and let the chocolate to melt by stirring occasionally. Let the melted chocolate to cool down a bit before proceeding to the next step, as it will help it to not drip from the spoons. You can also use a microwave to melt your chocolate, but after experimenting with both techniques myself, I recommend the Bain-marie one. Your chocolate will stay warm and melted for longer, and you will definitely not burn it, something that might happen with a microwave!
Step 3: Dip your spoons
Once your chocolate is melted, you can start dipping your spoon into the bowl. An intermediate step that I added here was to fill some of my spoons with peanut butter before dipping them in the chocolate to give my friends a tasty surprise! You will need to stir the spoons around to make sure it’s all covered in chocolate.
Step 4: Decorate your spoons
Now that your spoons are covered in chocolate you can start having fun decorating them! Then, you can set the spoon aside onto wax paper, and let the chocolate harden again. You can place the spoons in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes to fasten the process. Then they’re ready for dipping in hot cocoa, or hot milk. I wrapped mine in ultra clear cello bags, and tied with a bow to offer them to my friends as a Christmas gift.
